@johnsyounger Good to hear it’s working. Yeah, we have done some tests with Mr. Horse’s Animation Composer and have found that you have to dig deep into the comps that it creates and apply the Templater Settings effect to the layers that actually contain the text you want Templater to update. Hope this helps!

The Dataclay team has released Templater 2.9.6 which adds some features, improvements, bug fixes, and establishes the groundwork for integrating Dataclay’s new API named QUE. Thank you for your patience. Enjoy!

    What’s New in 2.9.6

    • Compatibility with Adobe After Effects 2021
Templater is compatible with and installs to the correct directories for AE 2021.

    • Image sequence support for dynamic footage layers
Users can reference image sequences as source media for dynamic footage layers. Enter the path to first file in the sequence and prefix it with a hash symbol #. For example, if you have a sequence at /ads/anim_0000.png relative to Templater’s footage root, entering #/ads/anim_0000.png into your data source lets Templater know it should import and replace it as an image sequence. When Templater imports a sequence, it sets the sequence’s frame rate to match the rate of the currently mapped layer source.

    • Improved network communication on Windows
On Windows, a new, flexible, and robust network communication library is utilized when Templater makes requests. For most users, this will not affect behavior, but for users with tight security protocols, special privileges might need to be granted to this library to communicate over the network.

    • Included Output Module and Render Setting Templates
Templater installs two new files that assist in render setup. The file dataclay-output-modules.aom contains AE Output Module Templates and file dataclay-render-settings.ars contains AE Render Settings Templates that are optimized for Templater batch performance. Load these files using AE’s Edit > Templates >… dialogs. On macOS, find these files in directory /Applications/Dataclay, and on Windows find them in directory <user home>\Documents\Dataclay.

    • Defaults for Output Module and Render Setting selection
Templater will use a default Output Module and Render Setting Template upon clean installation to avoid errors initiating batch processing workflows.

    • Specify a path for writing Templater’s log
In Templater’s Preferences dialog, within the Advanced group of controls, users can now specify a path for where Templater writes its log.

    • Improved messaging for license expiration and renewal date
Clicking the License Info button in the Templater Preferences dialog now displays the date when the activated license will either expire or renew.

    • Improved log messages for Templater requests to Google
To assist users with troubleshooting, the Templater log reports more specificity regarding requests made to Google’s API.

    • Various bug fixes have been addressed

      • Fixed hard crash bug when using AE’s “Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue” menu command while Templater panel is open.
      • The correct Windows and macOS version numbers are now reported in the log.
      • Fixed recurring license expiration issue when launching Templater via its command line interface.
      • Fixed Templater’s scaling logic for portrait, square, and landscape footage sources in accordance to its containing composition.
      • Dynamic audio layers now ignore spatial layout properties.
      • Fixed an issue where a unique footage file would not be downloaded when “Allow unique downloads for cloud-based assets” preference is enabled.
      • Fixed a naming issue when output column in a Google sheet was empty.

@voelz Thanks for sending the log. Can you please send the contents of your batch script as well as the contents of the templater-event-cmd.bat in the %TEMP% directory?

@voelz Can you please send support your templater.log file so we can understand a bit better? You can send to support@dataclay.com

Also, when you use the event scripts, Templater creates a temporary file in the operating systems’ temporary directory. In the case of Windows, it would be at %TEMP%. The file is named templater-event-cmd.bat and contains the expanded contents of what you enter into the Templater Events dialog. We have to do this for purposes of supporting UTF-8 characters in any of the expanded argument tokens.

Can you please also send support the contents of that file so we can see how Templater is expanding the script.

As well, you should see the command that Templater executes in the log. Follow the steps in this knowledge base article to help you troubleshoot.

    Hi There!

Because you want to stack the layers, and then vertically center the stack, you may need to create a pre-composition of the three layers. Then, in the composition you have showed in your demo, you will want to align the “triple text layer pre-comp” to the right edge of the guide layer.

Please let us know if this helps!

@Ben-Forman Unfortunately, we don’t have a video tutorial on this, but we do have plans to produce more this year.

My suggestion is to create a simple project with one layer that has an expression which uses data Templater is reading, and see how you can push that technique from there.

Our support team can help you along the way — the documentation does outline how to get data from Templater into an expression. Also, please check out some very rudimentary pre-rigged projects in our GitHub repository (you can download them) and inspect the layers that have expression enabled. I think you will gain insight into how it can be implemented. In particular, check out the drive-test-color project folder which shows how you can use Templater data to drive color of text.

    Hi @Ben-Forman!

While I personally have not used Essential Graphics panel with Templater, you should be able to do this by using some kind of numerical expression control that you can add to Essential Graphics. That expression control can be driven by data read by Templater from your data source.

Have you had an opportunity to read this article in our knowledge base about using Templater data in expressions?

Does this help? Would love to learn about the results you get.

@kientan Hi Kientan, unfortunately no, this is not an option out-of-the-box. However, if you had Bot edition, and knew a bit of ExtendScript, you can code a simple ExtendScript and register it to an “After Job” event to move the replica out of the folder. Here is documentation on how you can manipulate the project file during Templater’s processing.

Are you trying to render each replica? If so, you could consider using Adobe Media Encoder to render out each one automatically. Enable the “Send replicates to Adobe Media Encoder” and then project files will appear in Templater’s output destination. Then setup AME to “watch” Templater’s output folder. That workflow should work in trial mode.

@Oliver Glad it worked out. Happy rendering!

@Oliver Your best bet working with audio is to precompose the layer and then use Time Sculpting features to handle the length of the comp based on the length of the audio layer.
